The plot for “Baghban” was actually conceived around thirty years ago and Ravi Chopra had planned to have the title role enacted by Dilip Kumar. The plans fell through at that time and it is only now that he dusted off his story idea and offered the role to Amitabh Bachchan. No matter how technically polished the film is, the essence of the story and screenplay is something that seems to have jumped straight out of the era of 1980’s family sagas.

Terrorists get hold of a super weapon that is a deadly virus. They capture an old jail on an Island near Mumbai, now converted to a tourist place, taking a group of tourists as hostage. Then they ask for ransom from the Indian government. On denial they will send the virus using missiles to the lake from while whole Mumbai drinks water. Rest of the movie is about the Hero who was a former member of the same gang and had previously breached the same island jail. Police make use of him to get in the jail for capturing the terrorists.
